Frequently asked questions
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands, known as reflexes, which correspond to different areas of the body.
Its origins can be traced back to ancient cultures, with modern reflexology developing in the early 20th century and later being introduced to the UK, where it has become a widely practised complementary therapy especially in clinical settings such as GP surgeries, hospital wards, hospices and care homes.
What happens during my first appointment?
Your first appointment will include a confidential consultation to discuss your health, lifestyle, and any concerns you may have. This helps ensure your treatment is tailored to your individual needs. You'll be invited to relax in my comfortable reclining chair (or one of your own) and I will start the treatment by massaging your feet with natural reflexology creams and oils to relax the tissues before applying gentle pressure to specific reflex points on your feet.
Does reflexology hurt?
Most people find reflexology deeply relaxing. Some areas of the feet may feel a little more sensitive than others, but the treatment should never be painful. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort..
How long does a treatment last?
A typical reflexology session lasts around 60 minutes, allowing plenty of time for you to relax and enjoy the full benefits of the treatment. It can be extended with additional treatments.
Can anyone have reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for most people. However, there are some situations where treatment may need to be adapted or postponed. If you are pregnant, have a recent injury, or have certain medical conditions, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss whether reflexology is suitable for you.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies from person to person and depends on your individual needs and wellbeing goals. Some clients enjoy an occasional treatment for relaxation, while others choose regular sessions as part of their self-care routine.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing is recommended. Only your shoes and socks will need to be removed for the treatment.
Can reflexology cure medical conditions?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy and should not be used as a replacement for medical care. It is intended to support relaxation and overall wellbeing alongside conventional healthcare where appropriate.
Will I feel anything after my treatment?
Many people leave feeling deeply relaxed and refreshed. Others simply enjoy a sense of calm and wellbeing. Everyone's experience is unique!
Do I need to do anything after my treatment?
It's a good idea to drink plenty of water, take things easy if you can, and allow yourself time to enjoy the relaxed feeling after your treatment.
If you have any questions or would simply like to find out more about reflexology, please feel free to get in touch. I'd be delighted to answer your questions and help you feel confident before booking your appointment.
